AN AMAZING TRIP TO SOUTH AMERICA

Introduction
This is the story of my trip to Chile and Peru in 2026.
Biking in South America seemed like a swell idea. I love riding my bike – pretty much anywhere in the world… irrespective of the continent.
On this trip, I was in the saddle for some six weeks, then spent one more week being a “regular” (i.e. bike‑less) traveler. The journey took me from Santiago de Chile to Lima in Peru. There were three reasons for picking this trip.

First, my best friend, Rupert, who is no longer with us, had done this trip in the Nineties and had been raving about it, especially the Atacama Desert. Now that Rupert is gone (it’s been almost eight years without him…), I planned to complete this trip in his honour.
Further, except for a short trip to São Paulo in Brazil, I had never visited South America, so it was about time to discover this terra incognita.
Last but not least, regarding the timing, it was back in January when I left and I had had enough of the long winter – and was in desperate need of a bike ride and some sunshine – so was ready for a new adventure.
To sum up, this trip turned out to be a wonderful one, me discovering both Chile and Peru in quite some detail. There are 12 countries in Latin America, so I had just seen two of these – and would love to return to both the other ten – and also to explore more of the two countries I had been to.
In the following, I would like to tell you about this journey.
